The Faculty of Education was opened in 1998. It is part of Assumption University, which is administered by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel; a worldwide Catholic Religious Order devoted to education and philanthropic activities.

Rev.Bro.Dr. Prathip Martin Komolmas, the President Emeritus of Assumption University, had a strong vision relative to opening the Master of Education Programs at Assumption University. The programs specialize in Curriculum and Instruction, and Educational Administration. The programs were implemented during the first semester of 1998 with 31 students from different countries and workplaces. Rev.Bro.Dr. Bancha Saenghiran had kindly acted as the Dean, Faculty of Education, for several months before Assoc.Prof.Dr. Methi Pilanthananond assumed the deanship in November 1998.

The Faculty of Education, Assumption University of Thailand has collaborations with the College of Education, Washington State University, U.S.A.; the College of Education, University of Minnessota, U.S.A., the Faculty of Education, University of Wollongong, Australia, and the Faculty of Education, Australian Catholic University at Melbourne. Distinguished professors from these universities and other universities teach in all programs as visiting professors semester-by-semester of each academic year.

ACCREDITATION

The University is fully accredited by the Ministry of Education. Its graduates enjoy the same privileges accorded to state university graduates. Its academic standards are accepted by the Civil Service Commission of Thailand. Assumption University (Au) is recognized in the U.S.A and other countries; transfer credits from Au are accepted by foreign universities. Graduates from Au can pursue advanced degrees anywhere in the world. Assumption University is listed in the Handbook of Universities and other Institutions of the INTERNATIONAL ASOCIATION OF UNIVERSITIES in Paris, France.

The Faculty of Education's M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, M.Ed. in Educational Administration, and Graduate Diploma in Teacher Education programs had been accredited by the Ministry of University Affairs in 2002 and 2000 respectively. The Graduate Diploma in Teacher Education Program has been assessed by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority as being comparable to a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary) from a recognized New Zealand teacher education.
